Geek build update 6

DS9 Part 7

Well I didn't do any modelling this week because of life getting in the way. (Sad face) Until Sunday that is, then I managed to get a good two hours in. (Happy face)

I started by adding more detail to the center module, adding plates to the outside of Ops and some around the bottom near the reactors. After all that I was back on to cutting out windows. A little tip for you. If your working your model out in to thirds and using a cloner to repeat it around and build the rest. (working smart not harder) try and finish modeling the windows before you make it editable and have to finish off three times more windows than you started with! (amateur mistake I made there)

Anyway I think I'm nearly done modelling the center module so I should be able to move on to the habitat ring soon.  I had to see the station's lights punching through the darkness so below are a few quick renders and the build video of course.

Geek build update 5

DS9 Part 6

A few more hours of modelling today. I added more detail to the column under Ops and more detail to the very top of the module. I had to cut a section out of the model to make Sisko's office and add the window.
Check out the renders below and the video at the end.

Geek build update 3

DS9 Part 4

I found another hour to play with my DS9 model last night. Still adding more and more detail to it. I did have a "Boole" issues about half way through and had to sit and fix a lot of problems its had created. But it worked out OK so what you gonna do.

Geek Build Update 2

DS9 Part 3

I found an hour or two to do a little more modelling of the DS9 Space station today. I'm concentrating my efforts to the center of the structure at the moment. I thought it might be best to work my way outward and keep adding detail as I go.
Today I added more large details to the model and started to add chamfered edges to all the parts I have made thus far. If there is one thing I have learned about 3D modeling, chamfer all your edges baby! It really helps sell the idea that it is a real object when there is some light catching those edges.
Well bellow is today's modelling efforts.

Geek Build Update 1

DS9 Part 2

So I started to build the space station Deep Space Nine today and so far so good. Mainly because I'm still doing it! I am recording the build as I go and I think this is helping to keep me interested in it. (I have a tendency to start a model then start another one!) I found some time this afternoon / evening to do more to the model. So for your viewing pleasure I present part two of the modelling process.

Geek Build

Deep Space Nine

So I have decided to build the space station Deep Space Nine from Star Trek.

I'm going to try and screen capture it all and post it up on Youtube. below is the first section of the build. Mostly blocking in the major shapes so I can detail it all later. Enjoy the sped up video below.
